Azind – Traditional Eastern European Folk Music: Bringing The Past Into The Present
Azind is the duo in which I play with Alina Bauer, who is one of my favorite fiddlers. You will hear why when you listen to her playing: her sound and her sensitivity for the klezmer style are simply unbelievable.
Over the years, Azind evolved from a violin duo to a multi-instrumentalist set: nowadays we have our two classical violins, a custom made 8-string violin, accordion, mandola and a Greek laouto. Also, the project has evolved from being a strictly klezmer project to more general Eastern European and Balkan music. Apart from klezmer tunes, we play Greek, Romanian and Bulgarian music, and an original composition here and there.
All of it is at the same time very intimate and extremely intense, with a lot of dynamic interaction between the musicians- it’s great fun!
Aside from playing concerts, we have the honor to present some lecture concerts in schools in Landkreis Görlitz (Germany) about Jewish life, Yiddish culture and the role of music in Yiddish culture. In this program, we are sharing images, stories, anecdotes, rituals and some history, in combination with selected music played live to illustrate and bring to life the Shtetl where klezmer music lived. If you are interested in this program, you can contact me for more information here.
You can listen to some of the music on the CD here, and you can order our CD here.
